A weekend sowing community in the Alpujarra

This weekend we have been particularly active in the community network of La Alpujarra, sharing projects, learning experiences, and our desire to continue strengthening the community life that sustains our region.

On Saturday the 15th, we traveled to Capileira to attend the presentation of the Operación Encina project. Its two founders told us about the beginnings of their initiative and the deep motivations that led them to launch such a necessary project. It was an intimate and enriching encounter, in which we were able to share experiences and reflections on ecological restoration and community work.

On Sunday the 16th, we traveled to Yegen to participate in the Third Meeting of Associations of the Alpujarra. The event brought together hundreds of people interested in learning about the work of women’s associations, cultural and artistic collectives, groups dedicated to heritage preservation, and environmental organizations. The workshops and activities made the day a lively, diverse, and dynamic event.

As is often the case at these gatherings, we reconnected with people and groups with whom we had already collaborated, and we learned about new projects that work with the same spirit of care and commitment. We left the meeting with the feeling that the community network grows stronger every time we get together, talk, and share what we do.

For Semillistas, participating in these types of spaces is essential. It reminds us that ecosystem restoration is not only fieldwork, but also community work: supporting, listening to, and inspiring each other, and building healthier landscapes and more vibrant relationships together.
