Sowing the future in community: two days of action in February

At Semillistas, we are having a particularly busy February. Here we tell you about two days that perfectly reflect the spirit of our project: collective work, shared learning, and commitment to the regeneration of the land.

On Tuesday, February 10, we met in Bayacas for a new session of assembling acorns in seed shelters. European volunteers from the CES program and local collaborators participated, working side by side to prepare and protect seeds for reforestation. Beyond the technical task, it was a morning of cultural exchange, conversation, and bond building. While we assembled protectors and selected acorns, we shared experiences, motivations, and perspectives on caring for the land.

On Sunday, February 15, we returned to the mountains, this time to Sierra Lújar, in the Camino de los Mineros area. People from different parts of the province joined in the planting, showing a firm commitment to the restoration of the Mediterranean forest. Several volunteers who had already participated in other events expressed their desire to become more involved in the actions of Siembrabosques.

The morning started out cold, but the sun warmed up the atmosphere and allowed us to work comfortably. The views of the snow-capped peaks of Sierra Nevada reminded us of the richness and fragility of these mountain ecosystems that we want to protect.

After planting, we shared a meal outdoors, which provided an opportunity to answer questions about the techniques used, exchange impressions, and strengthen the relationship between volunteers and the organizing team. At Semillistas, we are deeply grateful for the involvement and enthusiasm of all the participants, who did not hesitate to venture into the gorse bushes to contribute to the regeneration of the land.

We continue to sow seeds, but also community.
